China Grove, NC
Located in Rowan County, China Grove is in one of Charlotte's more northern suburb regions that has been seeing strong growth in recent years. The town derived its name for the chinaberry trees that used to be located in the town. Due to its close proximity to I-85, it is a viable commuting area to large employers in Concord, Salisbury, Mooresville, and Kannapolis, China Grove.
In February 2013, this area, as well as the rest of Rowan county, was pulled into the Charlotte MSA (metropolitan statistical area) as expansion from the city expanded north.
Now Rowan county is being sought after for more affordable land options for housing and commercial developments. With this growth, the town has begun to annex additional land surrounding it, pulling nearby areas into its town limits.
